Arranged in two groups: I. Vocal scores (15). II. Orchestra parts (14). The vocal scores include 13 copies in English and Italian, published by Schirmer (New York, c1891, pl. no. 10139) and carrying the title "Friend Fritz"; one score in French published by Sonzogno (Milan, 1894, pl. no. E. 851 S.) with the title "L'ami Fritz"; and one score in English and Italian published by Ditson (Boston, c1891, pl. no. 37-55634-87 1/2). The English version for the Schirmer edition is by N.H. Dole; for the Ditson edition by W.G. Day; and the French version is by P. Milliet. The orchestra parts are manuscript and represent one set.

Nathan Haskell Dole was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and educated at Harvard University. He worked as a teacher and journalist in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and California, and as advisor and editor for the publishing firms Crowell and Appleton.
